Born and bred on the Eyre Peninsula, I was educated at Cummins Area School and Prince Alfred College.
I have enjoyed a long and rewarding career in agriculture, joining the family farm at Cummins in 1979.
I am particularly passionate about the environment, undertaking many on-ground works on the family property over the years.
My leadership roles on various industry boards have provided me with the tools needed to mediate between government and industry groups.
These roles include South Australian Farmers Federation Grains Council Chairman in 2008, Grains Council member from 2003-2005 and Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board Member from 2005-2008, I was also a founding member and past chairman of the Edilillie Landcare Group, and was a past member of the Cummins/Wanilla Catchment Management Group, the Nuffield Australia Board of Management and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
I was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship in 2002, enabling me to travel extensively, and research value-adding opportunities for Australian grain, and grain industry structures.

As a board member of Nuffield Australia, I have helped manage a world-wide scholarship program that facilitates young farmers to study and travel overseas.

An experienced chairman and presenter, I have given presentations in Canada in 2005 and China in 2008, as well as to many local conferences.
Closer to home, I have been heavily involved in the Cummins community, particularly the Rambler Football Club of which I am a Life Member, and past president, secretary and player.
I am married to wife Annette, and reside on the family farm at Edillilie with our four children.
